An EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) is a legally binding document in England that outlines the educational, health, and social care support a child or young person with complex needs requires.
An EHCP is designed for children and young people aged 0–25 who have special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) that cannot be fully met through standard school or college support. Unlike general SEN support, an EHCP is legally enforceable, meaning local authorities must provide the support specified in the plan. It replaces the older “Statement of Special Educational Needs” and ensures a coordinated approach across education, health, and social care.
